Easy Mexican Churros
Ingredients:
1 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup white flour
Oil for frying
Sugar Coating:
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Honey
(if desired)
Directions:
In a medium saucepan, combine water, 2 tablespoons oil, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar and salt. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in flour until mixture becomes smooth dough without any lumps. Place dough in a "churrera" (a large cookie press) or a pastry bag. Hint: if you don't have either of these, a zip-lock baggie will work just cut off one of the corners.
Heat frying oil in a large deep skillet to 375 degrees F. Squeeze strips of dough into hot oil. Fry until golden brown. Place on paper towels to drain.
Cut fried strips into the length you like. Combine the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Roll the drained churros in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Drizzle with honey if desired. Enjoy! |
