Ayuthaya was the second capital of Thailand between 1350 to 1767. It was more of a city for defense
rather than an administrative or religious center though there were many temples
in it. It is in ruins now and a national historic park containing many wonderful vestiges of its past.
Along with it's many relics of the past, Ayuthaya is an active, exciting and festive tourist destination. It has a lively night market
with exotic, interesting , and very tasty foods and fruits.
Bicycle TUK TUKS,
though a bit dangerous, are a wonderful way to get around as are bicycles. One of the most exciting things in Ayuthaya, are the elephants which are found everywhere, walking along the streets and wandering in the markets.
It is said that "good luck" or blessings come to any one that feeds the elephants. Ayuthaya, just a couple hours from Bangkok, is just plain a FUN place to visit!!
