Baku is the capital of the oil rich nation of Azerbaijan. The crude oil is so close to the surface that it actually seeps to the surface and is often ignited and will burn for decades like the FIRE MOUNTAIN.
Long ago these fires gave rise to the Zoroastrian religion of FIRE WORSHIPERS
whose archaic temple is here. The rock art
in the nearby Gobustan National Park attests to the fact that this area has been inhabitant for thousands of years. Many centuries later, Baku was an important city on the SILK ROAD and still has its OLD WALLED CITY
buried deep within its very modern city of the most unique and beautiful structures found in the world today.
Not only is Baku unique in the modern world but nature also has added a rare unusual uniqueness -- MUD VOLCANES of cold mud located not far from the city and known in few places on earth. Baku truly is a BUCKET LIST city.
