The Bay of Kotor is one of Montenegro's best and loveliest assets. This bay comprises one-third of Montenegro's coast line and is now and historically always has been, a wonderful safe shelter for ship during storms.
The mouth of the bay is deep enough for the modern super-size cruise ships which bring in many adventuresome and curious tourists along with much needed revenue. This is a very beautiful, productive, habitable area and has been throughout the ages which is attested to by the prehistoric rock art
and possible living shelter
found at Lipci. The Greeks also were here and after them the Illyrians whose queen ruled from her castle overlooking the bay though there is now little evidence of them having been here. The Romans, on the other hand as in most places they conquered, left behind beautiful mosaic floors
and the foundation of a villa.
Many darling little villages with winding narrow streets and delightful hidden nooks and crannies
have throughout time developed on the shores of Kotor Bay. Two islands
are in the bay, one is a natural island and the other is man-made, built stone by stone over time where a strange, devine light is said to have emanated from one foggy morning. As in all such miracles, a church is built on that site and can only be reached by boat. So then is Kotor Bay blessed?? I do like to think so.
