Madagascar is an island on the east side of Africa in the Indian Ocean and in the Southern Hemisphere. So where is Ifaty?? Ifaty is on the west side of the Island about 180 miles from its most southern tip. Ifaty is a very, very small village BUT it is a resort for diving,
snorkeling and whale watching.
Off its coast is the second largest coral reef in the world and divers say the best and healthiest they have seen. This is also a whale passage way as they move between their summer and winter grounds. Being a resort on the ocean there is also sailing
and anything to do with fishing from catching them to selling them
to eating them.
Madagascar has been separated from Africa for eons and eons thus many unique species have evolved. The lemurs, for one, are found only in Madagascar though they are now mostly only in the national parks. The hissing cockroach
though is found in the forest as is hedgehogs
and many wonderful boabab trees.
Madagascar is quite an unique and interesting place.
