The exotic city of Kathmandu is both the capital and largest city of the mountainous, land locked country of Nepal. Nepal is located in the Hemalaya Mountains of Asia, has 10 of the highest peaks in the world and shares the highest one, Mt. Everest (CHOMOLUNGMA) with China.
Kathmandu, on a trade route, developed in the deep Kathmandu Valley. Squeezed between very spiritual country of Tibet and polytheistic India, religion dominates every part of the life of the Nepalese.
In Kathmandu, small shrines are found at almost every street corner and many other little nooks.
In temples, the ALL-SEEING EYES OF BUDDHA look down on you.
Monkeys are all over at the Monkey Temple along with bright colored prayer flags. Palaces, also, abound in Kathmandu; some now are used as government buildings.
The ones in Durbar Square are where their kings were legitimized and one is still the home of their LIVING GODDESS. Though earthquakes periodically shake and do great damage to Kathmandu, it is still one of the most fascinating cities on earth.
