The Mekong River begins in the Himalay Mountains of Tibet. It forms the border between Thailand and Laos, and it flows through Cambodia and drains into the South China Sea in Vietnam. It is the third longest river in Asia.
In Vietnam, it splits into a number of branches, both large and small, forming a massive delta of many channels.
This delta is just south of Ho Chi Minh City.
Much rice is grown in the delta though the half day we were there we did not see any. Fruits are important products of the delta and the five main ones are bananas,
dragon fruit, papaya, pineapple
and lychees.
Candy is quite a valuable commodity produced from the sugar cane also grown there
as is fish farming.
We saw a number of chickens under baskets but we were unsure what their value or use was.
The delta is a fantastic adventure and eye opener to another world!!
