Quebec City is an old and very unique city. It is one that should be on everyone's BUCKET LIST. One that can be visited enjoyably any time of the year - we visited in December for the Christmas Market.
It is, as many cities in Europe, walled, in fact it is the only walled city in Canada and in the US and is very much European.
Quebec City is made up of two cities, Upper City on top of the cliff and the more prestigious and the Lower City nestled against the cliff and a working man's town now a delightful warren of little shopping streets.
It also is an important river port on the St. Lawrence River and a railroad center whose hotel (Le Chateau Frontenac) is the hallmark of the city.
Originally a First Nation village site when the French founded Quebec City (1708) and it was their first settlement. It is now, not surprising, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
