Taormina, Italy is in the northeast area of Italy in the shadow of the active volcano of Mt. Etna.

Though Mt. Etna appears as one mountain, it has many cones plus vent holes where steam escapes.

Seeing escaping steam could be scary to the average tourist but it is actually a comfort to the people and businesses of Taormina and those on the volcano as it releases the pressure building below.
The nature of the volcano is very familiar to the citizens of Taormina which has been in existence since 3500 BCE. The beauty of the island was discovered by the Greeks and sometime in the 3rd to 2nd century BCE they built a theatre and small temple in view of the sea and that mountain.

Three or four centuries later, the Romans repurposed that theatre into an arena for the gladiator's blood sport but in the 19th century it was reconstructed and repurposed again for the modern use of concerts and plays.

Being a town with such a long of history, there are many other beautiful historic buildings and ancient artifacts yet Taormina is a modern Italian town.

No doubt though, the prayer of the people is that Etna will keep its COOL!!
