Tbilisi, Georgia, though having in the last 1500 years been devastated 30 times, continues and, since the fall of the USSR, prospers. It is the capital of the country of Georgia and is also recognized as the primary city of the Caucasus.
Tbilisi means "warm" which refers the hot springs in the heart of the city and is probably the bases for its founding. These springs have been developed into an economic asset and enjoyed by both the city citizens and tourists.
Tbilisi is a modern city with many unique modern buildings
and also an old city with quaint houses
and narrow streets.
A massive walled fortress, some parts dating for the 4th century, watches over the whole city.
Both the Persians and the Arabs ruled the city but now the only vestige of their presense and religion is the lovely Sunni Mosque.
There is a synagogue in Tbilisi but, as a whole, Christianity is the dominate religion in Tbilisi and all of Georgia and a large part of the Caucasus.
Tbilisi abounds in public art and is a lovely, relaxing compassionate city where the feral dogs are tagged, neutered, released and fed by everyone.
