Uluru is the sacred rock of the Aboriginal people of Australia, the spiritual heart of Australia. It is also located in the heart of Australia, in the Red Center of Australia. It, like most of Australia, is an arid zone, a desert. Uluru is a monolith 1,142 feet high and 5.8 miles in circumference.
Though it is a National Park and a tourist attraction, it belongs to the Aboriginal people.
It has supported Aborigine life for 40,000 years. At it's base the Aboriginal communities lived, cooked their meals and stored their food.
From under this huge sacred rock, seeps life sustaining water which form waterholes and refreshing pools.
Beautiful rock art that taught their young how to survive, how to hunt and gather plants and the value and use of those plants, is found in caves and shelters and it's base.
Uluru was the source of their Origen myths and many 'dreamtime stories' all of which are the inspiration of much of their art.
