Yerevan is the ancient capital of the ancient country of Armenia. It is and has been a Christian country through out its history though surrounded and often invaded by the neighboring Moslem countries.
The beautiful Genocide Memorial
and museum attests to the abuse and slaughter by those invaders
as does the War Memorial attest to the suffering of Armenia during the wars, especially WWII.
During the Cold War, Stalin installed a large statue of himself overlooking the city which, at the fall of the USSR, was pulled down, melted down and remade into MOTHER ARMENIA which now overlooks the city.
She looks down on a busy, active city with many wonderful markets fill with the produce of Armenia's fertile soil.
Being a Christian country, Yerevan has some beautiful churches, both old
and new, though Yerevan's greatest asset is
the CASCADE!! This is a giant fountain tumbling down the hill
with art on both sides and terminating in a fun interesting sculpture garden with trees and grass.
