Aphrodisiac Foods
Since it is August and we are in the ‘Dog Days’ of summer, so many of us are going to the beaches and grilling out, going on picnics! I’d like to take a moment to talk about a couple of fruits that are in season right about now and both of them are, you guessed it, aphrodisiacs!!!
Watermelon
First let’s talk about watermelon! Who doesn’t love a big ‘ole slice of juicy, red, delicious watermelon, ice cold from the cooler? You take a bite and that juice just runs down your arm…Then there’s the watermelon seed spittin’ contest!! Pucker up!! Well, I bet you didn’t know there was a little more to that innocent little watermelon than just that sweet juice and those slippery little seeds? Watermelon has a secret weapon in it called Citrulline, which like the ‘little blue pill’ has the ability to relax blood vessels and to treat and maybe even prevent erectile dysfunction. Now they do know that this benefit is more concentrated towards the rind, but scientists are working on a variety that has more of the chemical throughout. An added bonus is that it also contains Lycopene, even more than tomatoes, which is not only good for the heart but also the prostate!! So double bang for the buck there!!
Cherries
Another little gem of summer that I love is cherries!! Those little red bundles of sweetness, bursting with juice, just waiting to be plucked from the stems! A member of the stone fruit family along with peaches, plums and nectarines, they are known as having a smooth fruit with one single stony seed. Historically known to be an aphrodisiac as well as an analgesic, cherries have been shown to have several health benefits. Cherries are a significant source of potassium, and contain vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, calcium, iron, folate and selenium. It also contains several phytonutrients which are known to fight cancer, one of them is perillyl alcohol which binds to protein to inhibit a cancers growth signals. They also contain anthocyanin which gives cherries their red color and are antioxidants which reduce pain and inflammation.
We all love the smell and flavor of cherries; cherry pie, cherry juice, cherry lollypops, cherry scented and flavored items. Many of the items sold by the makers of adult products are cherry scented and flavored because it is, by far, the most popular and tantalizing scent and flavor out there. Cherries are added to many recipes used as aphrodisiacs.
All in all, it seems to be more in the taste and the smell of the cherry as the allure. The real draw of the cherry is in its true health benefits. You definitely can’t go wrong there!
So as we enjoy what is left of the summer, relax and enjoy each other as much as you can!!
Enjoy Good Health and Good Sex!
Love,
Kalee
